FAQs

What is a fine line tattoo?

Fine line tattoos use very small needles to create thin, delicate lines rather than bold outlines. They are ideal for minimalist designs, small symbols, handwriting, and subtle artwork.

At Zendrawn we specialise in clean, minimal designs that focus on precision and detail.

Do fine line tattoos hurt more?

Pain levels vary depending on the placement and your personal pain tolerance.

Because fine line tattoos are done with smaller needles and less trauma to the skin, many people find them less painful than traditional tattoos, especially when they are small.

However, sensitive areas (wrists, ribs, fingers, feet) may feel more uncomfortable.

Do fine line tattoos fade faster?

Fine line tattoos can fade faster than bold tattoos if they are not done correctly or if they are not cared for properly.

Factors that affect longevity include:

• Sun exposure
• Skin type
• Placement on the body
• Aftercare during healing

With proper care and good technique, fine line tattoos can still look beautiful for many years.

Will my fine line tattoo blur over time?

All tattoos soften slightly over time as the ink settles in the skin.

Fine line tattoos may soften more than bold tattoos because the lines are very delicate.

Choosing a simple, well-spaced design helps maintain clarity over time.

This is why extremely tiny or overly detailed designs may not always age well.

Can I get a very tiny tattoo?

Yes.

Tiny tattoos are one of our specialities.

However, designs must still be large enough for the ink to heal properly. Some designs may need to be slightly adjusted to ensure they heal clearly and age well.

Your artist will always advise if a design needs to be resized.

How long do tiny tattoos take?

Most tiny tattoos take 10–30 minutes to complete depending on the design and placement.

Your appointment may be longer to allow time for consultation, stencil placement, and preparation.

How long does a fine line tattoo take to heal?

Healing times vary slightly between people.

Typical healing timeline:

• Surface healing: 7–14 days
• Full healing beneath the skin: 3–4 weeks

Following proper aftercare is important to protect the fine lines during healing.

Do tiny tattoos need touch ups?

Because fine line tattoos are delicate, some tattoos may need a small touch up once fully healed.

Touch ups are normally assessed after 6–8 weeks once the tattoo has settled.

Can I bring my own design?

Yes.

You are welcome to bring your own design or reference images. Your artist may make small adjustments to ensure the design works well as a fine line tattoo and heals properly.

Where are the best places for tiny tattoos?

Popular placements include:

• Wrist
• Inner arm
• Ankle
• Collarbone
• Behind the ear
• Finger (with caution)

Some areas of the body fade faster due to movement and friction, such as fingers, hands, and feet.

Can I get a fine line tattoo over scars?

In some cases, yes.

Scar tissue must usually be fully healed and at least 12 months old. The suitability depends on the type and condition of the scar.

Please contact us before booking if you would like to tattoo over a scar.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes.

A non-refundable deposit is required to secure all appointments. This deposit goes towards the final cost of your tattoo.

Deposits cover the time reserved for your appointment and any preparation work.

What should I do before my tattoo appointment?

To prepare for your appointment:

• Eat beforehand
• Stay hydrated
• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment
• Avoid excessive sun exposure to the area
• Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area

What should I avoid after getting a tattoo?

For at least two weeks after your tattoo avoid:

• Swimming pools
• Hot tubs
• Saunas
• Sunbeds
• Intense sweating or gym sessions
• Picking or scratching the tattoo

Proper aftercare is essential to protect delicate fine line work.

Do you tattoo anyone under 18?

No.

You must be 18 or over to get a tattoo. Valid photo ID may be required at your appointment.

Do you offer consultations?

Yes.

All consultations take place at the start of your appointment.

We will discuss your design, placement, and size together to ensure the tattoo works well as a fine line or tiny tattoo. Small adjustments may be suggested to ensure the design heals clearly and ages well.

All clients are required to complete a consent form before their appointment, which includes health and medical questions to ensure tattooing is safe for you.

If you have any specific questions about your design before booking, you are welcome to contact us.

Can I use numbing cream?

Numbing cream is not recommended for fine line or tiny tattoos.

Many numbing creams can affect the way the skin reacts during tattooing, which may impact how the ink settles in the skin. Because fine line tattoos rely on precision and delicate lines, it is important that the skin remains in its natural condition.

Most tiny and fine line tattoos are very quick to complete, and discomfort is usually minimal.

If you are feeling nervous about pain, please let us know at the start of your appointment and we will do our best to make the experience as comfortable as possible. Taking breaks during the session is always an option.

If you have already applied numbing cream before your appointment, please inform your artist when you arrive.
